CHEONG Kang Hao joins SUTD as a Faculty in the Science, Mathematics and Technology Cluster. Kang Hao graduated from the National University of Singapore with a degree in applied mathematics and the University Scholars Programme. He went on to do a doctorate in the subject of computational electron optics at the same university. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in education from the National Institute of Education (Singapore). Kang Hao has broad interests in mathematical and computational approaches to understanding social dynamics, physical and biological systems. He specializes in the scientific study of the game-theoretic Parrondo’s paradox across computing, physical and life sciences. He also enjoys working on healthcare/medical data analytics projects and in applied research work with the industry. Before joining SUTD, he was with the Ministry of Education as a mathematics teacher, head of department and policy officer (2007 to 2015) and the Singapore Institute of Technology as Assistant Professor in the Engineering Cluster (2016 to 2018).     Lead the Mathematics Department and the Mathematics Programme in the school
  • Senior Head, Academic Research Section, MOE Higher Education Division
    Program Manager for the MOE Academic Research Fund (AcRF), oversee AcRF policies and post-graduate manpower planning in the Autonomous Universities

    In charge of affective character education of the students

Research Interest:

Main research topic is in simulation, modelling and scientific computing:

  1. Scientific study of the Parrondo effect & its real-world implications (physical and biological problems),
  2. Computational electron optics/ Spectrometer design,
  3. Application of advanced analytics and operational research models and methodologies for the improvement of health services and healthcare operations.
