daVinci@SUTD STEAMxD Immersion Programme 2023 is a MOE-funded STEAM x D (STEAM = Science, Technology, Environment, Engineering, Arts, and Math, and D = Design) workshop happening on 12 – 18 January 2023 with participating students from 18 different Junior Colleges and Integrated Programme (IP) schools. The workshop is a human-centric, design, and technology interdisciplinary immersion programme as part of the daVinci@SUTD workshop series at Science, Mathematics and Technology (SMT) cluster in collaboration with Engineering Product Development (EPD) pillar and Humanities, Arts, and Social Science (HASS) cluster. The objective is to inspire youth in human-centric design and innovation to create a better world by design. Our external partners are James-Dyson Foundation (JDF) and Lionsbot International.

Drone Technologies Track

Students will be introduced to basic principles of design thinking while applying ideation methods addressing the design challenge, use Physics concepts, such as Newton’s laws of motion, law of conservation of linear and angular momentum, to understand drone (quadrotor) dynamics, employ block-based visual programming to autonomously flight a drone without human piloting that has been optimized via mathematical modeling. In addition, student will use 3D-printing to fabricate a suitable cargo to be carried by the quadrotor (drone) through a physical obstacle course and dropped from certain height for a safe landing without visible damage in the shortest time, all within the context of a human-centric systems approach.

Artificial Intelligence Robotics Track

Students will be introduced to basic principles of design thinking while applying ideation methods addressing the design challenge, assemble a suitable robot design to overcome different terrains, apply artificial intelligence principles by training a robot to recognize disaster zone victims via image recognition. In addition, student will use 3D printing to modify the frontal view camera to better identify disaster zone victims, all within the context of a human-centric systems approach.
